Exhilarated existence

season
/ˈsiːz(ə)n/

"A season is a division of the year marked by changes in weather, ecology, and amount of daylight. On Earth, seasons result from Earth's orbit around the Sun and Earth's axial tilt relative to the ecliptic plane. In temperate and polar regions, the seasons are marked by changes in the intensity of sunlight that reaches the Earth's surface, variations of which may cause animals to undergo hibernation or to migrate, and plants to be dormant."

I realised years ago that Autumn was my season. It was the time of year that made my heart warm and I felt especially wonderful and everything glowed that bit more and life just flowed in an effortless way. I am sure everyone has a particular season that makes them feel that tiny bit more happier, but it got me thinking about how every season offers something totally different and I'm not talking about just weather...

You take Spring, the fresh feeling of new beginnings and hope reenforced by clear skies and pastel palettes in the atmosphere. While blossom covers trees and it begins to stay lighter for longer, we use the days to build ourselves and think about what we want from the year. We feel lighter, some people find the motivation to do more, work out more, go out more and they start to bring positivity in their lives by simply using the seasonal change. We talk about Easter, pancakes, we recover from the craziness of Winter holidays and prepare for Summer adventure! Its crazy but I know so many people that come alive in the Spring and its BEAUTIFUL! Its an exciting time of year, a lot of talk about creation and birth of things. Done right, it can set us up with some sweet adventures for the year.

Next up is Summer, now I know that this is a popular response to "what's your favourite season" - personally I am not the biggest fan of Summer. Its kinda like I would rather be too cold than too warm. That being said, there is a certain sweet liberation in walking out the house just wearing a t-shirt and knowing you can just pick up a cold drink anywhere and feel that warm vitamin D sinking in to your skin as you go about your day. It's pretty awesome and its more often than not known as the season of fun. The days are long, the weathers usually wonderful and that's usually the only two reasons needed to max out on having a good time! Again, I personally choose Autumn to do these things but Summer has its own sweetness and there is literal magic in seeing how each season brings its unique opportunities and aura. People are usually happier in the summer (generalising, bear with me...) and its brilliant, seeing people laugh and of course, kids have their summer holidays so it becomes a generally accepted notion that happiness is around every corner.

The tan's begin to fade, you notice yourself wearing jumpers again and switching out iced coffee for pumpkin spiced lattes. Its the time of the year I live for. Autumn (or Fall). The day's become smaller again, it starts to get dark outside around 5pm and its great. You may see fairy lights popping up all over the place as people prepare for a season of festivities including Halloween and Bonfire Night (obsessed). The pallets of the atmosphere change again, we see earthy tones become prevalent with browns and gold and oranges, warm shades of all pretty things.  Leaves fall everywhere. I mean they are literally everywhere. The temperature drops but there is excitement in it still as everyone at some point marvels at the world and how its covered in cinnamon. Runs feel glorious in Autumn because you can use the magic of movement to warm up from the freezing cold to the sub-warm. You can bake and indulge in warm autumn-flavoured drinks (thank you Starbucks et al), in the same way you can call it a day at 5pm and treat yourself to an indoor activity - perhaps a movie or show or museum. The two benefits here are that you'll be warm and you'll have a very good time. Everything in life is like that, just approach it with the blank idea that you will have a good time - in isolation to anything else, you'll have a great time. I am obsessed with Autumn so that was a really easy vent for me to write out but I hope you know where I am coming from, I hope you a can see that from the pinks of Spring to the yellows of Summer to the Browns to Autumn, life guides us through to living a fulfilling and mindful year.

As Bonfire night/Guy Fawkes passes, we begin to step quickly in to Christmas markets, Christmas movies, Christmas gifts just general Christmas splendour. You'll notice music changing in cafes, speciality drinks being unveiled, Winter-based events taking place all over the city and the excitement  just keeps peaking. Kids begin their Christmas holidays, we decorate trees and I could swear I start to smell gingerbread everywhere. Its such a beautiful and magical time to be alive but as we start to see the end of a whole year, we also start thinking about the bigger picture. We start to see what goals we set in Sprint and whether we smashed them or are still working on them, we look back at failures and hopefully try to see what happened but we don't dwell. Never dwell. Look back and see the bad for what it was and the good for what it IS. Focus, renew yourself as New Years approaches and fill your hear with gratitude. On New Year's Eve, I usually try and make a list of all the things that happened during the year that I am grateful for, its important to remind yourself of every small or big thing that brings your heart joy.

Celebrate your life as it happens but also celebrate it at the end. Rejoice, make the most of what you have when you have it and you are so fortunate (we are so fortunate) to live in a world with these seasons that gently remind us how to live. Flowers grow, blossom, spread their magic then wilt then fall and die and then rise again just as beautiful (if not more!) if flowers can teach themselves how to do that, so can you.

It's Autumn right now, so I am ecstatic. It'll be Winter soon and then another year will begin. Stop and smell the roses, your life is happening RIGHT NOW. You got this.

U x
