That first sip in the morning

I don't know if you know but I am all about mornings. Holding that warm freshly brewed coffee in a mug (or more frequently one of those old school travel flasks) in my hands and then taking that first sip. Pure happiness.

You've heard this before from loads of people 'it's the small things, the tiny things, the insignificant details' that light up our lives. I just want to talk about this a little bit today. You may have something big you're looking forward to right now - like an event, gathering, trip or important purchase - and when it comes to you, it will be joyful and fantastic. Now, when you look back, can you recall the previous 'big thing' you were looking forward to + then experienced? Visualise it and you'll find that as amazing as the occasion was overall, there were so many small details around the occasion that stand out for you, the way a particular moment felt or sounded or the way something in particular sparkled or a specific frame locked to your mind and saved itself to your memory. It simply is the smallest things, truly, that make the journey worth it - they hold the key to motivation, the recipe for contentment and at the end, all the pretty little moments collect to create that peaceful sense of success that we all look forward to.

I try to do this cool thing and it warms my heart everyday and I honestly think everyoneee should have a go! Before going to sleep, just recall your day and think very carefully about each small thing that you are grateful for and list it out mentally. Honestly, it's unreal how your mindset will transform. You'll see your own day go from being great to marvellous as you recall the smiles you shared, the smiles you walked past, the few minutes you heard of a song you love, how awesome your lunch was! Think of how fabulous it felt to be able to walk somewhere, to be able to see something, to be able to smell and touch and be completely alive in this day. This day will never ever return so hold on to it just before you sleep and add to your list - add the funny joke you heard or the funny story, add how wonderful it was to flick through the novel you're reading and how brilliant it is! Do you remember how pretty the sky was today? Did you learn something new today - I bet you did, was it  fantastic? How relaxing your shower was, how invigorating your first sip of coffee was? Such a little thing like all the other little things that make up the big things that make up a day, that make a week, that make a month then year and basically a life. A whole story, a journey made up of little things. Hold on to the beautiful little moments that go unnoticed and well... just notice them.

Think of them and smile,
Ux
