Expectations

"Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect." - Margaret Mitchell [Novelist]

Just like most things, there are pros and cons to expectations. As human beings, we should expect wonderful things from people around us, we should expect amazing things from ourselves, we should strive to create lives where we can expect great things from the work we create. Beyond everything, we should expect to exceed expectations.

That being said, it's not uncommon for us to look at the pages of our lives and come to the conclusion that what we see is not quite what we had expected. You may reach a milestone age and find that you have not achieved everything you were planning to, you may find an ideal opportunity only for it to not work out or maybe you have dreams that you are yet to pursue but life keeps getting in the way? Whatever cards life throws up, it usually offers surprises and learnings but never ever think that there is not beauty in all that life offers, the trick is simply step away from the 'expectations' you were holding onto.

This may seem difficult at first, its a very human thing to see things in a certain way shaped by experiences, ideas, dreams and probability. But just like everything else, you'll see that it's a process. It begins with the decision to want to be happy/content/not perpetually mad, if that is your priority then to put it simply: you will regularly fail to achieve this result when you compare your actual living one-timeline life with the warped manifestations of what you were expecting. Alternatively, aligning your positive expectations while finding ways to be appreciative of what IS around you [not what 'could have been'], noticing what IS present in your life and what it is teaching you, showing you, and if you can notice and utilise the opportunities available to you [not the 'missed chances'] then... I guess you'll flourish.

Do always hope for great things, like happiness and health, manifest a beautiful life and work hard for it but just remember that life owes you nothing, no one owes you anything. The results you achieve are yours to be proud of whether you achieve them in the ten years you had envisioned or the fifteen years you did not initially expect. The best, best best bit is that life keeps going and you'll be able to keep adding days to your story like links to a chain and you can fill those days with positive understandings of why life is the way it is rather than interpreting an interesting + beautiful world around you as one that simply didn't fit what you had imagined.

Another incredible thing about this? Chances are that when you step away from preconceived notions, you'll start to see elements of your life (if not your whole life) is wholly better and greater, richer and deeper than what you had imagined.

As creative as we can be, sometimes we are unable to perceive the greatness that is to come into our lives. Notice the wonders around you, the people and things, the factors and pieces of you that make your life YOURS. Because more than anything, its your masterpiece, its something you live in daily and you can shape it. You truly have the power to connect with what is in your life and align it with your positive expectations without letting your negative expectations get in the way. Believe in your dreams with zero fear and identify the opportunities around you that can take you closer to where you wanna be.

I bet you'll achieve great things, always expect nothing but the best from yourself,
Ux
